Victor Cordier

1927 - 1996, Belgium

In order to escape his day-to-day existence, Victor Cordier decides to leave the country and joins the French Foreign Legion. After the Korean war he came back to Belgium, but was interned for mental instability and alcoholism and was diagnosed psychotic. He was then sent to the Club Antonin Artaud where he met Mara Pigeon, the animator of the painting studio.
This discovery of drawing and painting was important for extinquishing Victor’s wounds. In silence, with no need to speak, he half-opened some passages to his life.

In 1985, he moved to the country where his existence became meaningful. He continues to paint a coherent world mixing reality and imagination. This dual approach characterizes Victor’s unconscious desire to be enrolled somewhere between reality and imagination.
