Linette Ricker
1932, Belgium
Linette Ricker has been coming to the CRéAHM-Brussels centre since 1990 and has always been interested in others.
Her work is based on photographs, very freely interpreted. The subjects are mainly people in all kinds of situations and places, who seem to stare wide-eyed at the viewer as if they were posing for a souvenir photo. Her rather diagrammatic drawings simply locate the subjects in the décor. It’s at the painting stage that the work gets its individuality. The colours are often bright and contrasted, multiple brushstrokes serving to mix shades. When touching up with dry pastels she redraws the details and sharpens the outline. She then add lines of colours side by side or juxtaposed, accentuating the expression and creating a subtle, painted work rich in colour and expressiveness.
