Mohammed Targa
1960, Morocco
For six years, Targa attended painting classes in the art studio of Nivelles’ prison.
It was in painting and drawing that Targa found a way to master prison time, or at least to control it. His works have a rare veracity and expressivity that reveal a painful identity situation.
Painting gives him the opportunity to abolish, transform and above all to exceed his constraints. And all of Targa’s painting is about meeting a new life.
