Irène GERARD

(Belgium, 1958-)

Bodies lingering like so many fragments assembled, then glued back together in the manner of Kintsugi, the Japanese practice of gluing broken objects back together by sublimating the repair with gold. Yet, it is more often with a black outline that Irène Gérard interweaves the kaleidoscopic beings that emerge from her brush. Self-portraits, famous works of art and personalities are among the subjects that gain in presence, strangeness and depth from the artist's intervention. Irène Gérard has been working at La S Grand Atelier since 2007.
